SmashBear Publishing Placement

I had the opportunity to work as a Graphic Design Intern at SmashBear Publishing from January 2023 till May 2023. I worked remotely with the close knit team at SmashBear Publishing to produce a variety of graphic desig work. This included book cover designs, graphic elements within a book, book gift boxes, company merchandise, book cover style/size guides as well as editing existing book covers and logo designs.

I had to redesign SmashBear Publishing’s Logo to be used during the main holidays throughout the year.

I had to redesign a logo for SmashBear Publishing using the brief initially given to SmashBear Publishing’s Graphic Designer:

Draw something up based on the given text from Rune Caster series Book 1. Sabine is a beagle.
The image/illustration will most likely be used on Instagram so should be made in a size that easily allows this.

Book Text:
‘I pointed to a small plaque on the wall next to the stairs where a cartoon version of Sabine was reading the text: “come is peace. Do not harm the other guests. Don’t run out on your bill. Be courteous to the staff.

I had to Choose, Re-imagine or create your own dark high fantasy novel to create a book cover design for.

Book Idea/Story:

I have previously worked on a book cover for Peter Pan, when researching the story of Peter Pan I discovered that whilst portrayed as a children’s book in reality is a dark tale. For this reason I wanted to create a story and book cover that took inspiration from those dark undertones of the original.

This book takes place across two universes. The Neverland universe and Pixie Hollow universe. Taken from Pixie Hollow by our antagonist, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell finds herself trapped in Neverland in order to provide Neverland with its power source (i.e. pixie dust). The only way to escape is through the Right Star Portal that only opens every lunar eclipse.
Time is quickly running out and she must find a way to Kill Peter Pan and escape. Throughout this journey she teams up with Captain Hook and his crew to rid Neveland of its cruel ruler.

I then designed the inner pages

I got to create a book cover design for a new anthology from SmashBear Publishing.
The name of the anthology is Daydream.
